Questions from blimp

How can you find out if there is spywear on your computer? is there softwear that you can buy to track wear it is coming from, and what are some names of softwear?

Reply from Devilin

The how to get rid of spyware link above, will take you to an anti spyware, software page, containing free software, that will detect and kill any spyware on your computer, and unless you've built your own computer, and installs all of the software, and drivers yourself, chances are, you've got spyware, its usually incorporated in the bundle software pack, installs on your machine, some spying companies pay computer manufactures to install it onto computers,

Questions from CrazyDude

Man this site is awesome...I have this problem that my stupid Norton Anti-virus can't seem to find... everytime I start up the computer ( I'm running windows xp media center ) some SDK media center folder pops up and a problem window with "...bridge.dll cannot be found" pops up. I e-mailed a lot of companies and they said it was part of some spyware and they don't know how to get rid of it...since you're the spyware guy I wanted to see if you knew how to fix it. By the way this site is EXACTLY what I wanted to read about.. since I'm a fanatic about anti-virus software and spyware detector thingys lol

Reply from Devilin

Has been Updated for bridge.dll / since 2004-03-04 J you may need to reinstall SDK, if its beem modified

have fun, and call again if you're still having problems

MSBB revisited. I, amongst several million others, am completely fed up with spyware. I use my systems for serious development and I resent the intrusion by these seemingly harmless apps. Ad-Aware has proved extremely useful over the past year but one thing still worries me; every now and again I find 2 registry entries related to MSBB and they are subsequently deleted, however I found this entry in the registry after Ad-Aware had cleaned up. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\msbb (Default) REG_SZ (value not set) Changed REG_DWORD 0x00000000(0) SlowInfoCache REG_BINARY 28 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff ... I am now curious as to whether or not this entry is in fact related to the spyware. (OS: XP Pro) I feel like enlisting the help of a few DefCon members in this matter.

Advanced user, go to the tech guy forums, you're scare the normal novice user away J

But as I can't resist,

( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\msbb(Default) REG_SZ (value not set) Changed REG_DWORD 0x00000000(0) SlowInfoCache REG_BINARY 28 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ff ff ff ff

The MSBB file, is spyware and it is open for exploitation, just hit the update button on Ad-Aware and run it again, this should sort the pesky registry entry and associated file out

It's n-CASE180 Solutions,

DefCon ? I've never been there, nobody has ever seen me there, you can't prove anything J
