"devilin" Hi joe have you downloaded
any anti virus, and firewall software yet?
"joe" no I can't see the point, I've
never had any viruses, and I never go to any nasty sites, I don't
open email's from people I don't know, so I don't really need any
of that stuff
"devilin"? How long have you been
on the net?
"joe" About a year
"devilin" then you're definitely infected,
"joe" no I'm not, I would have noticed
"devilin" ? What a big skull and crossbones,
with your screen being eaten?, that's movie stuff, the vast majority
of nasty stuff, doesn't self advertise,
"joe" so what if I was infected, I
haven't noticed, anything, its not affecting anything I do, so what's
the problem ? even if I was infected
"devilin" ever used your credit card
online?
"joe" NO
"devilin" How do you pay for your
Internet connection then?
"joe" I did that via telephone, anyway
all that credit card, and bank stuff is done with a secure sever,
that padlock thing, its all secure, encrypted files and everything
"devilin" secure, only means, secure
there end, and its pity pointless if you're wide open at your end,
every encryption package known to man has been broken, why do you
think they keep introducing new encryption, because the old one,
is no longer safe, and if you got something recording your keyboard
activity, they don't need to break any encryption,
"joe" yeah, but what's the chances,
of somebody sitting there waiting for me to type something in? They'd
never know when I went online, it would be impossible
"devilin" its all done automatically,
nobody is sitting there waiting, you're computer records and then
sends the recorded information automatically,
"joe" yeah but I've never used my
credit card online, and I've never opened any email's from people
I don't know, so there's no problem
"devilin" you don't need to open an
email to become infected, and without a firewall and anti virus
protection, viruses and other nasty stuff can be downloaded directly
onto your computer, you'd never know, and there are other issues
involved around nasty stuff, not just credit card issues
"joe" like what
"devilin" well, without any protection,
you're computer can be used for any number of illegal activities,
somebody trying to hack, a government computer, not wishing to get
court themselves, could use your computer as a screen, or somebody
could use your computer to send out Spam possibly illegal porn ,
you'd never know, until you got a knock on the door,
"joe" yeah like that stuff really
happens, how come I've never heard about it, it would be on the
news, and everything
"devilin" it has, and it happens so
often, its no longer news worthy,
"joe" well, I can't afford any protection,
"devilin" there's free protection
via my site
"joe" free, yeah that's going to be
trash then, nothing is for free in this world what's the catch?
"devilin" the free programs, some
are donationware, relying on the good nature of people to finance
the programs, others are commercial business endeavors, i.e. some
companies don't bother with small amounts of money from individuals,
they rely on large amounts of money from businesses, one of the
most affective ways of advertising there product, its to let individual
uses, use a basic versions of their products, brand loyalty, others
let you use a basic version of the product hoping you're buy their
full version,
"joe" these basic versions, there
trash then?
"devilin" No the core of the program
is usually exactly the same on both versions, the pay for is usually
is easier to use with more facilities
"joe" so all free versions are good
then?
"devilin" depends upon the product,
I test all the software on my site, its all good stuff, I use it
myself, anything that I recommend, I've trusted with the safety
of my computer
