Hello,
Take your time, I consider free / donation
based programs, perfectly adequate to provide protection for the average
user, so there's NO, " doom and destruction awaits you if you
don't buy this rubbish program immediately " the programs I
recommend, I've tested over a long period, and I'd never recommend
anything I hadn't used myself, to protect my own machine,
There's a form at the bottom of this page where
you can ask questions,
Replies will probably take some days, as this
is only a hobby site,
And I will not laugh at any question ask
The Internet is full of nice people, wishing
nobody any harm whatsoever
But with any collection of people, there's a
small proportion of nasty individuals and companies, trying to exploit
every possible angle for there own personal benefit
And the Internet has provided them with opportunities
to exploit people by the millions,
This page just isn't large enough to cover the
thousands of tricks, cons, scams, hacks etc. which take place on
a daily basis, to millions of people
You can protect yourself,
The most important protection is, you,
Being aware that people are trying to exploit
you, is your first defense
Being aware of how people are trying to exploit
you, relies on you educating yourself
Be paranoid, they are out to get you, but don't
let it totally dominate your behavior
The software protection, which is absolutely
essential,
Windows update, although they can be slow in
fixing problems, plugging holes etc. its important to check for
updates on a regular basis
Get yourself a firewall,
Software defense must be multi layer, a single
line of defense, i.e. just antivirus, just won't do whatever any
antivirus, company says, about how much protection it offers, you
won't truly realize this until you've used a decent firewall, (Windows
XP built in firewall, is not good enough)
Anti-virus
I shouldn't need to explain about this essential
piece of software, -------unless you ask ,
A common question is will anti virus software
protect me against spyware, the answer is probably not, spyware
is a different kettle of fish altogether
Anti spyware
Did I miss anything?
Did you not understand something ?
